Treatment options for wounds in various stages, Part 2

Described in the following article are treatment options, materials and techniques that have been developed for use in the treatment of wounds in their various stages. This article makes no claim to be an exhaustive review of the subject but is intended to provide examples of each treatment option only. There is a range of techniques that can be used for the removal of necrotic tissue and fibrin coatings. An overview of mechanical, surgical and enzymatic methods of debridement was provided in the first part of this Care Lexicon. Considered in this second part are biosurgical and autolytic debridement and ultrasound-assisted wound debridement (UAWD).
